We Are Not Different (WAND) is an European Erasmus+ project focused on the problem of social exclusion of children and the sectoral priorities of education in adults. Children’s exclusion in school is a topical issue, with both short and long term consequences. For this reason, the WAND project aims to help parents in educating children who are being excluded at school by creating a learning kit. This kit consists of an online learning platform which contains a guide and a set of learning videos.

PROJECT PROGRESS

WAND project is in the last implemented period, on 31st May, the project will come to the end and all the partners from Smart Educational Projects Association (Romania), Inercia Digital (Spain), LatConsul (Latvia) and Polaris (Italy) are carrying out some activities.

During the last months of the project, we worked on the WAND Learning Kit, particularly on the update of the e-learning platform on which we have created a course that is available in the following languages: English, Romanian, Spanish, Italian and Latvian.

This course contains training modules on creative thinking, effective communication, stress and how to deal with it, time management and self-confidence. Inside these modules, there are theoretical contents, educational videos and practical materials so that parents and educators can have get-at-table support materials.

In April, all the partners had the last transnational project meeting that was held in Târgu Jiu, Romania, where we discussed the last implementation period of the project. During this meeting, we checked the progress of the project and we plan our last activities that are focused on the dissemination and the multiplier event to present all the results to the stakeholders and public bodies.

The multiplier events were held at the end of April and the beginning of May with the aim that all the project partners presented the results of the project in each country. This way we held an event in Târgu Jiu (Romania), Vasto (Italy), Huelva (Spain) and Riga (Latvia). The events were focused on the presentation of WAND project and its results, the WAND learning kit. We have had great participation in the events, in total, more than 130 people from different countries participated, from associations, schools and public bodies, in this way we want the project to be present in our society and all the results could be used by all interest groups to prevent exclusion Social.

For this reason, the WAND project has the purpose of helping parents on the marginalized children’s education in school through the creation of a learning kit consisting of an online learning platform, containing a guide and a set of learning videos.

Project progress

During the past months, partners worked on the creation of the WAND guide that contains 2 chapters and the design of the e-learning platform to help parents on the marginalized children’s education in school. It has been a hard year for the project due to the difficulties to hold the face to face activities like meetings and the learning, teaching and training activities. Nevertheless, we have been doing our best to make sure that the objectives of the project are met.

After more than a year working online, in July, we had our second transnational project meeting in El Rompido (Spain) hosted by Inercia Digital. All the partners from  SMART EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS Association (Romania), Inercia Digital (Spain), LatConsul (Latvia) and Polaris (Italy) attended the meeting during two days where we focused on the progress of the project and the planification of the implementation activities.

Next steps

In addition, we will keep working on WAND Kit, we will focus on the videos and the online training content for the e-learning platform with the objective of keeping active all the interesting parents through our educational videos.

Do you know project WAND?

The project We Are Not Different (WAND) is a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and comes from a consortium of 4 organizations engaged in adult education: the SMART EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS Association (Romania), Inercia Digital (Spain), LatConsul (Latvia), Polaris (Italy).

The project is focused on the social inclusion problem of children and  the sectoral priorities of adult education: “Improving and expanding the offer on high quality learning opportunities that are tailored according to the needs of low-skilled or highly-qualified adults” and “Expand and develop educators’ and other staff members’ skills who support adult learners”.

What is the purpose of the project and its objectives?

The purpose of the project is to create a WAND final product. It is a learning kit consisting of an e-learning platform that includes a guide and a set of learning videos. With WAND, parents on the marginalized children education in school will have the chance of acquiring skills and knowledges through the learning kit

The objectives of the project are:

  1. Improving the skills of 12 trainers from partner organizations to provide quality training in the field of parenting education aiming at skill development that will ensure the social inclusion of marginalized children.
  1. Developing effective communication skills, creative thinking, coping strategies, time management and developing self-confidence for 40 parents of school-marginalized children by using WAND
  1. Supporting and promoting the WAND network by transferring and multiplying the project results.

Next stepsLast January all the partners attended the kick-off meeting in Targu where they planned the project activities. At the moment the e-learning platform is ready and in the coming months, there will be a learning activity for trainers where they will improve their skills to provide a proper instruction in social inclusion. Besides, partners continue working in the guide of the project and the set of learning videos.

Do you have children with social exclusion problems? We will help you through a free e-learning platform.

We keep working on the WAND ( We Are Not Different) project for introducing parents to the marginalized children’s education in school.

Among these months we developed our own e-learning platform, which will later include a guide and a set of videos with the aim of offering a useful tool for parents so that they spend the necessary time communicating with their children and thus help them overcome social exclusion problems. The platform will be finished for next year and everyone who is interested will be able to access it completely free.

The relationships between parents and children is an essential instrument for the improvements of the education process and results.  The first chapter of the guide is ready and has been done by Polaris, the Italian partner. This chapter addresses  communication skills from parents to children and some tips and recommendations for effective communication.

It is true that we have been working for several months on the project courses that were planned to train workers in this field and parents, but due to the difficult situation generated by COVID-19, it has been postponed these training activities and  we will continue working online in the Learning Kit for mothers and fathers. In this way we keep adapting to the changes and meeting online. Last meeting of the WAND project was on 9th of September and was attended by Ana Fortes as project manager and María Fernández as project coordinator from Inercia DIgital  along with  Latcosul, and Smart Educational Projects Association in order to plan the next steps of the project.

The end of marginalization with WAND

Scholar marginalization is a current problem that children suffer because of different reasons (religion, ethnicity, poverty, disability, high IQ). The project WAND (WE ARE NOT DIFFERENT) has as main objective to put an end to the scholar marginalization in schools. Due to the lack of solutions by schools, the aim of this project is aimed to educate parents to help their children overcome marginalization. “WE ARE NOT DIFFERENT” is an Erasmus + project of cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices and it belongs to a consortium formed by 4 organizations working in the field of adult education: SMART EDUCATIONAL PROJECT Association (Romania), Inercia Digital (Spain), LatConsul (Latvia) and Polaris (Italy). It is a transnational and cross-sectoral consortium, with different skills and experiences, but all of them work with adult education.

The goal of this project is the use of WAND, a learning kit made up by an e-learning platform loaded with a guidebook and a set of learning videos, to the literacy of parents in the field of education for marginalised children at school. Inercia Digital will be responsible for the creation of the e-learning platform. It is expected to reach 3 main objectives through these intellectual outputs: firstly, improving the skills of trainers to give quality education in parenting education; secondly, developing effective communication skills, creative thinking, coping strategies, time management and developing trust for parents and thirdly, the support and promotion of WAND network.

To achieve these main objectives 2 exchanges of good practice activities will be developed, the learning material will be created and 2 workshops for learning and testing the intellectual outputs will be celebrated, as well as 4 multiplier events that will contribute to the WAND network.

Those parents whose children are in this situation and who are interested in participating in future training activities of this project, can write to projects@inerciadigital.com
